Abstract:
The critical role of risk management in managing IT projects within the dynamic and complex environment of the information technology sector is examined. It has been noted that digital transformation has become essential for minimizing risks and achieving project success. Despite the availability of modern methodologies, many IT projects fail due to ineffective risk reduction and management strategies. This article synthesizes the ideas of well-known researchers such as H. Kerzner, T. DeMarco, G. Alleman, and others. Their studies focus on risk management in IT projects and the impact of digital transformation. It also examines Ukrainian research from 2022–2023 regarding the impact of digital transformation on IT risk management. The main issues identified include subjective risk assessment, the lack of a system approach, and communication gaps among stakeholders, leading to budget overruns, delays, and loss of customer trust. The research is aimed at identifying the main IT risks and assessing the role of digital transformation in enhancing project management in the IT sector. Key risks include: project scope expansion, unclear requirements, budget and timeline overruns, management of global teams, technological failures, employee burnout, resistance to change, and communication breakdowns. These risks threaten project success and require robust management strategies. Digital transformation facilitates process automation, data-driven decision-making, improved collaboration, and the implementation of agile methodologies. The use of tools such as artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and data analytics allows for the optimization of operations, risk reduction, and increased project productivity. The article emphasizes the necessity of integrating digital transformation into IT project management to overcome prevalent risks. By utilizing advanced tools and methodologies, organizations can enhance their agility, efficiency, and competitiveness in a rapidly growing market.

Keywords: management, IT project, risks, digital transformation.
