WHY YOU SHOULD NOT TRANSLATE METADATA INTO ENGLISH

Quality of the English language in metadata is one of the main requirements for inclusion into international information and scientometric databases. At the same time experience shows that despite continuous repetition of «authors bear responsibility for quality of translation» they feel no responsibility. Authors mostly use automatic translation tools, which provide translation of words but not essence.

Under these conditions the editorial staff was forced to send back up to 70% of articles at the stage of preliminary control, sometimes «closing eyes» on the quality of English and sometimes translating by ourselves. And this is a typical situation.

Taking into account that low quality English could become a basis for refusal to include the journal to scientometric databases, a decision was made to translate metadata by the editorial staff, which would provide a guaranteed quality of the translation.
