Abstract: Rising socioeconomic inequality is one of the most pressing issues of the 21st century. Socioeconomic inequality has not only deep economic consequences but also far-reaching effects on social stability and long-term development prospects. Therefore, examining global trends in contemporary development, which drive inequality to alarming levels, becomes especially important, particularly concerning current migration trends. The aim of this article is to uncover the factors of socioeconomic inequality to achieve a comprehensive understanding of the interconnections and multifaceted impacts of recent migration trends on the state of inequality. Some significant claims exist regarding the potential of international migration to reduce inequality. However, migration depends on the conditions in both the country of origin and the destination, as well as the circumstances under which it occurs. The relationship between migration and inequality is far from straightforward. The impact of migration on inequality also depends on where migrants end up and in which occupations. Migration affects inequality levels between economies as well as within «origin» and «destination» countries. Key factors influencing inequality include higher wages in destination countries, remittances to origin countries, brain drain, and being trapped in low-income sectors. Migrants can exacerbate inequality in destination countries by concentrating both at the top and bottom of the income distribution. The link between migration and inequality extends beyond financial aspects, affecting social mobility, community cohesion, political stability, and many other dimensions of development. Therefore, both individual countries and the global economy as a whole continue to experience the burden of inequality amid increasing waves of migration. In conditions of constant intensified labor mobility, various effects on the state and specific manifestations of inequality take place, and a thorough study of these can assist in developing effective migration policies for countries worldwide.
Keywords: socioeconomic inequality, migration trends, refugees, migration policy, brain drain, discrimination.
