Abstract: The monograph is devoted to the theoretical substantiation and development of methodological support for the development of a competitive electricity market in Ukraine, taking into account the national interests of the sustainable development of the electric power system in the context of European integration. The global experience of establishing competitive electricity market models is summarized, and the key determinants of their formation are identified. The institutional, organizational, legal, and economic foundations of the functioning of electricity markets in the EU countries and Ukraine are revealed. The study analyzes the trends in the development of Ukraine’s electric power sector within the European energy space, identifies structural contradictions in the functioning of the national electricity market, and substantiates methodological approaches to assessing the electric power system sustainability. A diagnosis of the functioning of the electricity market in Ukraine under the conditions of implementing the European model of market relations organization is carried out. The concept of a competitive electricity market in Ukraine is substantiated, and the organizational and economic components of the mechanism for its functioning are determined, including the development of the energy-only and the capacity markets. Methodological approaches to assessing electricity security, forecasting the adequacy of generation capacity development, and economically substantiating the sustainability of electricity generation technologies throughout their life cycle are developed. The results of the research can be used by public authorities and regulatory bodies, electricity market participants, research and higher education institutions in the formation and implementation of policies for the development of Ukraine’s electric power sector, the improvement of market mechanisms for the functioning of the electricity market, and the ensuring of sustainable development of the electric power system.
